What we collect, and why
A plain-language account of the data this site actually handles - no tracking pixels, no ad networks.
This page describes what Mountain Man Bhutan Adventures actually collects and why - it's a plain description of the site's real behavior, not boilerplate. Last reviewed alongside the /reviews feature it documents.
Review submissions
If you submit a review on /reviews, we store your name, email address, the trip you took, your rating, and your review text. Your email is never published - we only use it if we need to confirm a trip before approving a review. Every submission starts hidden (“pending”) and only becomes public once we've reviewed it.
Contact form messages
If you message us on /contact, your name, email address, trip interest (if selected), and message are sent directly to our team's inbox by email - we don't keep a separate copy in a database. Your message is used only to reply to your enquiry.
Itinerary wizard requests
/plan-my-trip's question-and-answer steps run entirely in your browser - your answers (trip type, length, pace, timing, interests, group size) never leave your device unless you choose to send yourself the results. If you do, your name, email address, those answers, and the details on that final form - travel dates, nationality, accommodation preference, activities, and any special requests you add - are emailed directly to our team's inbox, the same way a /contact message is - we don't keep a separate copy in a database. Nationality is asked because it changes Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee rate (see /visa), not for any other purpose.
Spam prevention
To stop automated spam submissions, we generate a one-way hash of your IP address at submission time and use it to limit how many reviews can be submitted from the same connection in a short window. We never store the raw IP address, and the hash isn't linked to your name or email anywhere in the database. The contact form and the itinerary wizard's email step additionally use Cloudflare Turnstile, a CAPTCHA check - see “Third-party embeds” below.
Cookies
Your light/dark theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device. The only cookie this site sets is an admin session cookie used solely by our own staff to sign into the review moderation dashboard - it has no effect on and collects nothing from regular visitors.
Third-party embeds
The /reviews page can show a TripAdvisor review widget, and the /contact page and /plan-my-trip's email step run a Cloudflare Turnstile check to block spam submissions - each loads a script directly from that provider (TripAdvisor or Cloudflare) rather than from us. While active, that script may set its own cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy (published at tripadvisor.com and cloudflare.com respectively) - we don't control what it does once it loads. No other page on this site loads a third-party script.
What we don't do
No analytics, no advertising trackers, no tracking pixels, and no selling or sharing of guest data with anyone outside our own team.
